- Merry Christmas!
Lots of things
happening this month; Christmas rush orders, the
Mare-y Christmas Barn Tour (photos are slowly being
posted in the proof gallery), finishing up the
Much Loved Horses 2010 calendar (featuring the horses of
Oakhaven, both owned/bred there as well as horses that are
boarded there), not to mention the usual personal Christmas
things.
2009 has been a
great year! So many blessings especially that of great
friends. Overall, an special year. I did lose my beloved
Merlin on Easter Sunday but even that has had a silver
lining in that it gave me time to get acquainted with
Guinevere, my young mare.
Looking forward
to 2010 and lots of new adventures!
Best of everything to you and yours!
12/4/09 - Winding
down....
This equestrian season is shortly coming to a close and it
has been such an enjoyable year. With all of my heart, thank
you to all of my clients that have supported my business and
my art. You all make it possible for me to live my dream!
I missed the
final
Hy Court show of the season last weekend - a bit under
the weather. Sounds like they had a great time despite the
heavy and threatening skies.
My
friend/trainer from
Oakhaven,
Susan Fuller, did fabulously with two of the Oakhaven
horses. With Winnie (Eowyn
OPL) she won a 1st and 2nd place in Training I and II.
Then with Frodo (Free
Ride OPL), she won Training IIII. All scores were above
70%. Not too slouchy
considering she has only been working with these horses
since August! Congrats to Susan, Pat, and Debbie - the
Oakhaven Team (or part of it!).
Next Sunday,
December 13th, is the Texas H2Oasis Mustang
Mare-y Christmas Barn Tour. Lots of fun and for a great
cause. The tour will go to several barns in the
Driftwood/Dripping Springs area and end up at Oakhaven. More

I worked on the 2010
Foals calendar this weekend; I had hoped to be finished with
both calendars in September, but can't complain about having
too much work!

11/11/09 - It has
been a super busy few months and I have enjoyed catching my
breath a bit this week. I even got to take a few photos of
my horse recently :D

The October 25th Hy Court
show was a hoot with the Halloween Costume Contest. Lots of new horses
and riders at this show; got to see quite a few old friends
as well, which was lovely. Visited with Robin Whittenbaugh
from
Levade Saddlery and got to hear a bit about her
adventures with a Hy Court youngster. Also saw Lara Jonardi
from Royal Kings Equestrian in Driftwood with her lovely boy
Rexx.

On October 28th, I was
back at Hy Court to shoot behind the scenes during the
filming of the
LOPE DVD
with Tom
Curtin on Retraining Racehorses. Janet Manley from Hy
Court was also featured. Expected release date is early
2010. Amazing stuff - Tom and Trina definitely make it look
easy....

Our telephones
here at the office have been problematic this week;
apologies to anyone that tried to call and didn't get
through. The phone company assures me all is well now...

- Traveled with the Oakhaven
crew to the GOV (German
Oldenburg Verband) inspection tour stop in Boerne, TX
last week. Tons (literally!) of beautiful sport horses -
mares and foals. And an 18 month old gelding that was really
something :D

This weekend I
will be back at
Hy Court, enjoying the lovely weather and the COSTUME
CONTEST! Photos will be posting on Monday for that
extravaganza...

The
BLUEBONNET HORSE EXPO
was FABULOUS!!
I can't even begin to explain it, you just had to be
there - wow! Tons of wonderful clinicians, vendors,
performances, and not to mention the rescue horses who all
have a story and a new chance at life and are all so very
beautiful.
This was the inaugural year for two new parts to the Expo -
the Rescue Horse Training Challenge and the Bluebonnet Art
Show.
Watching the Training Challenge was so much fun and really
amazing when you consider the trust issues that many of
these horses have. The folks working with them - for just 90
days - are so dedicated and talented to do so much in such
little time.
And I am totally proud and honored that I won the Best of
Show in the Art Show with my photograph "Takoda". Thanks to
everyone who voted for my work, I was completely surprised
because there were so many great pieces there.
Due to popular request, I will be offering smaller framed
versions (8x10 and 11x14) of Takoda for purchase. Just
contact me if you're interested.
Can't wait for the 2010 Expo!

10/4/09 - Congratulations to Ricotta & Deborah Gordon,
on confirmation of Debbie's Gold Medal with
USDF! I got to spend
a bit
of time photographing this dynamic pair yesterday - wow!
Picture perfect! Debbie is the dressage trainer at
Oakhaven.
9/28/09 - Spent a lovely day at the
Hy Court
show yesterday....
congrats to all of the riders and their beautiful horses!

Lynn from
LOPE had a
booth in the vendor area
at the Hy Court show displaying their gorgeous
re-purposed race horses as well sponsorship
opportunities for their upcoming DVD project.
Take a look at the poster
created by Lynn's
husband Tom using my photo of Heza Peacemaker.....
btw - Sponsorships are still welcome!
9/22/09 - Getting some more of the lovely wet stuff
falling from the sky today (rain), already 3.5" here in SW Austin. I
wouldn't even mind if my bookings got rained out for the next month
if it meant it would continue! We are still around 25" behind in our
over two-year long drought so, every tiny bit is appreciated. The
photo at right was taken at sunset recently just as a storm was
rolling into the area.
The
Fall horse show and activity season has shifted into full swing here
with lots of things going on every weekend and some even on
weekdays. I attended the
American Holsteiner
Horse Association inspection at the
lovely Honeybrook
Farm in Hockley, TX. Lots of gorgeous Holsteiner
horses, great folks, and yummy food. Congrats to Lisa O'Brien and
her Site Champion Mare,
Waltz Across Texas. Proofs

posted in the gallery
This weekend I will be at the
Hy Court
show, which is always fun (!) with
Amanda, Janet, Hazel and the rest
of the gang there.

Also, the
Bluebonnet Horse Expo is coming up on October 10th at the Travis
County Expo Center in Manor. This year looks to be fantastic with
excellent clinicians and demos, an
Art show and sale, plus the new
Rescue Horse Training Challenge. I will have a piece in the Art
show and you can bid on-line before the Expo! Remember - it's for a
great cause! (art show piece
shown at right)
Also, this year I will be offering
Personalized Christmas/Holiday
Cards
(a few samples shown
here)
created from my photographs of you and your
equine/canine/feline/human friends & family.
More information will be posted
in the next week or so about this!
8/31/09 - I spent most of the
weekend out at
Oakhaven
for a 'Boarder's Photo Day'. Truly enjoyed my time spent with this
wonderful group of women. The horses and riders were just
spectacular for Day 1 Under Saddle, and Day
2
Portraits was a photographer's dream. The women were relaxed and
lovely so the work went by effortlessly and the results are
spectacular. Thanks to all who participated - Michele, Nanni, Debbie
2 (Debbie Gordon :D ), Alexis, Susan, and of course Debbie 1 (Debbie
Graves!).
We will definitely
have to do it again next year!
8/22/09 - This afternoon I
traveled out to the
LOPE Ranch and photographed three of their soon-to-be-DVD-star
horses... Pogo, Peacemaker, and The Kid. Had a fun time with Lynn
and Tom in the lovely summer sun (it was only 105°). And despite the
drought, their place is really gorgeous with huge pecan trees and
lovely pastures. I can just imagine how nice it is with a little
rain.
After about an hour we
began to notice that we were losing the light to clouds and on the
horizon the sky had turned an ominous black and had lots of
lightening striking. Kinda interesting. We pushed on as the light
changed and became that rarified pre-storm and oh so special type.
Then my cell phone began to go crazy; I ignored it for awhile since
we were in the middle of things but when I did finally play the
voice mail it was my hubby telling me to either head for home or get
under something! It seems that the storm was headed right for us and
had golf ball sized hail, 60 mph winds, and dangerous lightening.
So.... we packed up and I headed home through the storm...
interesting it definitely was!
Due to the lighting, the specialness
of the horses, and the specialness of the humans that care for and
about them, the photos are extraordinary.
Take a look in
the proofs gallery
Also,
take a look at what Tom
from LOPE created with my photo of Peacemaker, promoting the
upcoming DVD, gorgeous!
8/20/09
- just a quick note about some new
specialty items that I will be offering - acrylic prints, folded
note cards, fine art paper upgrades, and 2.5" gallery wraps to name
a few. These are beautiful and unique ways to show-off your photos!
More info is also in the
Proofs
gallery with your photos.
